Clinical Staff

At the Medical Centre we have within our clinical team an excellent skill mix which includes General Practitioners (GP’s), Nurse Practitioners, Practice Nurses and Health Care Assistants (HCAs).

We have a Nurse Practitioner who can carry out the following duties:

  • Assess  &  diagnose patients
  • Carry out a physical examination
  • Instigate various tests & investigations if clinically indicated
  • Prescribe medications if necessary
  • Refer patients to hospital (or other agencies)  if appropriate
  • Write letters supporting university queries such as concession letters/accomodation/on campus parking/bed board request

Three of our Practice Nurses are  Nurse Prescribers which means they can prescribe medications if  & when necessary.  All our Practice Nurses can help with a wide range of issues, for example:

When you ring for an appointment with the  Nurse you might be asked by the Receptionist what the reason is for your appointment. You do not have to give this information unless you want to. Each appointment is 15 minutes long.  If you are coming about more than one problem the Receptionist will need to be informed so that she can book you a longer appointment with the Nurse.
