Psychological Therapies (UMCPT)
UMCPT is a Talking Therapies service established by the Medical Centre since December 2012. The service is part of the national drive to Improve Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT). You may hear the service referred to as an IAPT Service.
At the Medical Centre we are aware that each year nearly a quarter of us experience difficulties with common psychological problems such as anxiety, low mood, depression, low self-esteem, stress, phobias and trauma. Some of these problems may relate to relationships, loss, studies, debt or just everyday life.
We recognise that these difficulties have a considerable impact on our day to day lives and the aim of this service is to make help more readily available to those who need it.
We offer a range of different talking therapies, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Counselling, support and advice. A referral to the service can be made in one of two ways; via your GP or by telephoning the service directly to self-refer on 01227 469338.
We initially provide an assessment and then discuss the most suitable treatment options with you. These may include Psycho-educational workshops or classes, self-help guides or individual face to face or telephone treatment.
For more information about the service or to self-refer please call 01227 469338, alternatively you can to visit UMCPT
Specialist Mental Health Services For Students
We feel that it is vital that Students have robust Mental Health services to support them whilst studying. At the University Medical Centre we provide a student only specialist Mental Health Service called the Primary Care Student Mental Health Specialist Service
Primary Care Student Mental Health Specialist Service
This service is for students with new or existing mental health problems who may need some short term support to help them return to their usual day to day routine and studies.
The service is run by an experienced team of Nurses and Occupational Therapists with access to a Psychiatrist's advice and guidance. They are able to offer an assessment and support and potentially signpost you for further support from another specialist organisation. For information on how to access the service please see the Service Leaflet.
