Introduction
At University Medical Centre we are committed to protecting your personal health information. For this reason, we use NHS Egress Secure Mail when sending sensitive information such as test results, referral letters, or medical documents when information is being sent outside of the secure NHS system, such as directly to patients emails eg gmail.com, Hotmail.co.uk.
Why We Use NHS Egress Secure Mail
Egress Secure Mail is an NHS-approved system that ensures your information is sent safely and remains confidential. It encrypts emails so that only the intended recipient can read the contents. This is particularly important when we need to share documents containing personal or medical details.
For more information about Egress, visit the NHS Digital guidance on Egress.
How to Access an Egress Email
When you receive a secure email from us via Egress, you will be prompted to create an account the first time you access one. This process is simple and only takes a few minutes:
- Open the email and click the link to view the message.
- Register for a free Egress account using your email address.
- Once registered, you can securely view and reply to the message.
You can find help and FAQs about using Egress at the Egress Support Centre.
Using the NHS App for Test Results and Documents
Wherever possible, we encourage patients to use the NHS App to access their test results, documents, and medical records directly. This is often quicker and more convenient than waiting for email correspondence. In line with the NHS 10 year plan, the aim is for the NHS App to be the digital front door and you may find it helpful to register now, to enable you to benefit from future developments via the App.
With the NHS App, you can:
- View your test results
- Access letters and documents
- Order repeat prescriptions
- View your medical record
You can download the NHS App via the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android).
For more information or to get started, visit the NHS App website.
If you need help setting up the NHS App we have Digital Champions available in our Practice to support you. Please contact us to find out more.
