Meningitis Outbreak Canterbury

 

If you are a close contact of a confirmed or probable case of Meningitis please attend the University Senate open Monday 16th March 16th March 9am to 2pm.

If you have symptoms of Menigitis or suspect you may have symptoms dial 999 for urgent advice

What are the symptoms to look out for?

Symptoms of meningitis and septicaemia can include:

  • A rash that does not fade when pressed with a glass
  • Sudden onset of high fever
  • Severe and worsening headache
  • Stiff neck
  • Vomiting and diarrhoea
  • Joint and muscle pain
  • Dislike of bright lights
  • Very cold hands and feet
  • Seizures
  • Confusion or delirium
  • Extreme sleepiness or difficulty waking

A patient helpline, run by UKHSA, is now available. Patients can call 0344 225 3861, Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm, if they have no symptoms but are concerned they have been in contact with a confirmed case or have a general enquiry
